Criminal Defense Attorney, Founder of The Law Offices of Stephen R. Kahn
Stephen R. Kahn is a criminal defense attorney based in Beverly Hills, California. For over 40 years, he has focused his practice on defending clients charged with serious, often complex, criminal offenses across a wide variety of cases. Matters he routinely handles include Homicide, Robbery, Rape & Sexual Assault, Gang Violence, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse and Arson, as well as Fraud & White Collar Crimes, particularly Medicare-related fraud. With extensive experience negotiating pleas and trying cases in both state and Federal court, Stephen Kahn has earned a reputation for being aggressive, fearless, strategic and decisive from the moment his clients reach out to him through to the end of the case at hand, obtaining not guilty verdicts or reduced sentences in an astonishingly impressive number of cases. He is well known and extremely well regarded by law enforcement, prosecutors, judges and juries alike, earning him the coveted AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
As a seasoned veteran of the state and federal criminal system, Stephen Kahn has gained an invaluable understanding of the importance of timing and strategy in all different types of cases. Not one to wait until opening arguments to start making the case for his clients, Stephen seizes every opportunity – early and often – to tell his clients’ stories and humanize them to those who will decide the defendant’s fate. He will often intervene with the police or federal agency bringing charges to try and resolve the matter up front. When he is further retained post-filing or post-indictment, he immediately enters into negotiations with prosecutors for a dismissal more lenient sentence. If a favorable result cannot be achieved, he will not hesitate to take a case to trial. He is an aggressive and skilled negotiator and convincing orator in court and cannot be intimidated by any part of the process, no matter how highly-visible the case or how damning the facts of the matter appear for his clients. Prosecutors, too, know he is a force to be reckoned with and no fun to face at trial.
Stephen Kahn began his legal practice as an associate and mentee to one of the top criminal defense attorneys in Los Angeles. He worked with him for over five years, after which he went on to be a partner in several boutique law firms before starting his solo practice in 1989.
When not in the courtroom or working on a case, Mr. Kahn is a member of the Inns of Court, a prestigious legal organization comprised of judges, academics and successful peer attorneys dedicated to professionalism and ethics. Stephen Kahn received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles and his J.D. from Loyola University Law School. He is admitted to practice in all California state and federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; and U.S. District Courts for the districts of Connecticut, Alaska, Minnesota and Nevada, as well as the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Southern District of Texas, Eastern District of Virginia, Northern District of Oklahoma and the Eastern District of New York.
